Children’s Formation Resources
Explore these sites for ideas and information to support formation ministry for children and families. Many have search functions or indexes if you are looking for something specific, but all of them make for inspirational browsing.
Grow Christians
Grow Christians strives to create an online community of discipleship focused on the practical details of life at home. Gathering reflections, stories, images, and recipes from diverse Episcopalians, this group blog inspires generations to come together as they celebrate the presence of God through the Christian year.
Building Faith
Building Faith is published by Lifelong Learning at Virginia Theological Seminary. Their mission is to equip and inspire churches and individuals for the ministry of Christian education and faith formation. They believe that Christian education means helping all ages – children, youth, and adults – grow in the knowledge and love of God. They also know that formation happens in many ways: worship, church school, faith at home, outreach, mission, camp, and more.
Flame Creative Children’s Ministry
Flame Creative Children’s Ministry comes out of the Church of England and follows a Messy Church model. They have an extensive collection of formation resources for children, supported by a comprehensive subject index. Their coloring pages and play dough mats are particular popular.
StoryPath
StoryPath equips parents and all who nurture faith by connecting God’s story with the stories in our lives so that we see the presence of God in everyday life. Their indexes connect storybooks with several lectionaries. Each faith review explores the book’s ties to scripture and includes ideas for using the book to prompt conversation that enriches faith.
Still Waters: Creative Worship & Prayer Station Ideas
Curated by Theresa Cho, this site has a large selection of formation resources, particularly prayer stations. These are creative, interactive opportunities for children (and all ages) to explore faith practices outside of a classroom setting.
Worshiping with Children
This site is about intergenerational worship which intentionally includes God’s people of all ages in a single service. This lectionary blog offers ideas about ways to read scripture in the sanctuary so that children understand it, scripts for prayers and liturgy that draw children as well as adults into worship, plans for folding worship education (for all ages) into the worship service, and essays about how children understand and participate in worship and sacraments. It is no longer being updated, but the index is comprehensive and searchable.
Thrive Faith Formation
This resource from the Christian Reformed Church of North America is an excellent resource for formation ministry. Thrive's work in faith formation encourages and equips churches and individuals to practice lifelong faith building and discipleship in their work, home, school, church, or neighborhood, so that all generations have an intentional and resilient faith.
Vibrant Faith
Vibrant Faith helps ministry leaders cultivate Jesus-centered families. They have articles addressing a variety of in-the-trenches parenting and ministry topics, and excellent resources to support family ministry, including Familying the Faith (effective ways to equip parents as faith-influencers) and Practical Tools for Raising Faithful Kids.

We believe that parents and caregivers are the most influential people in our children’s faith formation. Check out our resources to engage, equip, empower, and encourage them in God’s calling to raise children of faith.
Milestones
Milestones are moments and events in life that significantly mark the passage of time. Sometimes these are traditional church events: baptisms, confirmations, weddings, and funerals. Often, these milestones occur outside of our churches, but are still very much a part of our lives of faith. Our resources help families connect with God at these intersections.
